Dolo square, Venice

The redevelopment project of the former Piazza del Grano in Dolo, led by PROAP Italia srl studio under the direction of landscape architect João Nunes, has represented a significant opportunity to transform the area, consolidating the connection between the surrounding urban fabric and the city center. Originally utilized as a commercial space and a land port, the square underwent a revitalization process led by the Municipal Administration, aiming to reduce vehicular traffic and promote a more livable and urban public space.

The project involved various stakeholders, including technical and political figures, committed to reconnecting the urban fabric, improving quality of life, and respecting the surrounding environment. One of the key aspects of this intervention was the introduction of KM+ pavement by Favaro1, a material that contributed to the creation of welcoming and accessible pedestrian spaces.

KM+ pavement was chosen for its compatibility with the surrounding environment and its ability to adapt to the project's needs. Made with recycled and natural materials, KM+ pavement reflects a commitment to sustainability and offers high resistance and durability over time. Its distinctive personality and aesthetic versatility allow for the creation of unique and captivating environments, thanks to a variety of available shapes, geometries, and colors.

The project also included the reduction of vehicular traffic along the riverfront and the implementation of deterrent elements to encourage pedestrian use of public space. Furthermore, efforts were made to reinforce the central role of the Church of San Rocco within the square, creating a functional and accessible space that reflects the needs of the urban community.

The design process involved several phases, aiming to deliver an intervention that meets the needs of the community, complies with environmental and cultural regulations, and promotes energy efficiency and savings. With the active involvement of various stakeholders and careful planning of design activities, the redevelopment project of the former Piazza del Grano aims to become a landmark in the Brenta Riviera, promoting a vibrant and inclusive urban space for all its users.
