Piazza degli Arcipelaghi
The redevelopment of Piazza degli Arcipelaghi is part of the broader project to enhance the Poetto seafront, with the aim of restoring centrality to a strategic public space by improving accessibility, livability, and the connection between the residential area and the waterfront.
The project, led by Studio Gaias (Arch. Sebastiano Gaias and Eng. Giuseppe Gaias) with the collaboration of associated firms and a multidisciplinary team of professionals, focused on sustainability and inclusivity, removing architectural barriers and introducing cycling, pedestrian, and tactile paths.
The interventions defined a new urban design with permeable pavements, green areas integrated with biofiltration systems, pergolas, and urban furniture. Road traffic was reduced and regulated, favoring soft mobility and safety, with dedicated routes for pedestrians, cyclists, and runners.
Today, the square presents itself as an open, usable, and accessible space, capable of combining social function with environmental quality, strengthening the relationship between city and sea.
