Minimum Environmental Criteria and Sustainability: The Role of Floorings

MECs favor professionals who possess skills in environmental management and sustainable design, encouraging the choice of specialized operators. Specialized technical operators find in MECs an incentive to be chosen, considering the obligation on the designer's part to present a MECs technical report specifying the conformity method for each criterion and material used.

Self-draining pavements are becoming increasingly crucial, as at least 60% of a new pavement surface must be kept permeable according to MECs. Companies such as Favaro1 have conducted research aimed at the design of new materials and drainage systems, leading to the creation of solutions such as Recycle, which are highly performing, sustainable and MECs certified. MECs push towards recyclable and easily disassembled construction solutions, reducing the 'heat island' effect and air pollution. The surface temperature changes significantly depending on the material used, highlighting the importance of sustainable flooring. The adoption of MECs represents a fundamental step towards a more sustainable construction sector. Self-locking draining flooring emerges as the cutting-edge choice, respecting eco-sustainable production criteria, limited use of resources and ease of recycling at the end of life. Through this interview, the key role of self-locking draining flooring in the context of MECs and sustainability in the construction sector clearly emerged.
